Laura Plaut,
I heard of your children focus at Common Threads Farm from Cyrstine at Uprising Organics. I just purchased five acres in the Bow/Edison area and want to also focus on kids having positive experiences with their hands in the soil; I never had that: sowing-tending-harvesting seeds. The five acres would further eventually provide 20 families (75% food stamps) a place to do u-picks, work/skill shares, and seasonal farm parties. I also have a local CSA to sell to.
I think this will be transformative to myself and all who volunteer/work.
Do you interface with public schools? YES. BUT NOT IN TERMS OF FARM SITE VISITS (CURRENTLY) - WE COORDINATE THE WHATCOM COUNTY SCHOOL GARDEN COLLECTIVE
What is your approach to fostering healthy exposure to agriculture for children? SEED TO TABLE - I"M A FIRM BELIEVER THAT EATING THE FOOD GROWN IS A KEY PROGRAM COMPONENT
Success stories? YES, HAPPY TO SHARE THEM
May I visit/volunteer on your farm one day this winter? SURE - JANUARY IS BETTER THAN NOW FOR ME.
How is your day going? GOOD - THANKS FOR GETTING IN TOUCH, SORRY SO BRIEF, I'M ON A DEADLINE FOR MY "DAY JOB". L.
